| I grew up on the Bayous of Louisiana. It was a fascinating place to live! My Mothers parents and my Fathers Mother were from the Canary Islands, Spain. They are known as Islanders (Isla'nos), my Fathers Father came from Sicily.
I grew up with nature all around me. I guess this is where my appreciation for the outdoors began. My Father made his living from the waters and the land. They were hunters, fishermen, oystermen and trappers. Their occupation changed with the seasons. It was quite normal to see all kind of animals and waterfowl around the house.
My favorite was hunting season, I loved to see and hear the ducks as they came in to feed at the lake. I would examine the feathers( they were so beautiful)on the ducks when they brought them in from the hunt. The feathers were used for pillows, but the ducks became a delicious meal.
I married and left the Bayous. We settled in Lafayette, Louisiana, the Heart of Cajun Country. Lafayette is another wonderful place to live; I am proud to call Lafayette home. |
